Forgiveness

People always say that they are sorry
Yet all they do is make the same mistakes.
Over and over, we tell them to stop
But all they do is ignore what we suggest.

Forgiveness begins with one action
Hugs, a hand shake, or one big embrace,
We forgive them almost instantly
Yet do we know they mean it all the same?

For all we know they could be lying.
Not meaning anything that they tell us.
Expressing their own actions with a shrug, a sigh,
Or even not keeping contact with our eyes.

There is one way to express your forgiveness.
To put all your energy to that thought and feeling in mind,
To feel so ashamed and think over what you have done,
Expressing the one simple word, Sorry.

For that one moment, do not forget why you made that choice,
Why that sudden impulse guided you to the ones that you hurt.
It all makes a difference after that heavy burden has been lifted.
The whole moment of forgiveness: that is how it is created.
