Cigarettes

by cassandra   Apr 22, 2011

I lite it up
and inhale....
watch the smoke
fester all around
monopolizing my thoughts.
even though
it's bad for my health
the burning in my chest
is horribly relaxing.

i can't help but continue
day after day.

fill my lungs with the smoke
embrace the feeling
killing me slowly
i watch with regret
as the cherry lit ambers come to rest.

eager for another drag
i refuse.

the nicotine has worn off
i hear the lies
i do not believe.
your cancer won't run threw my veins
anymore.
for the last time i'll say goodbye.

I love that you used cigarettes as a metaphor for your significant other, for the naivety in a sense. Brilliant work, loved the originality.
    Take care
