Hope Springs Eternal

by rob   Apr 29, 2011

"Hello there!" I say, though you're overdue
again you're still the favorite of the four
Only the fresh breeze whispers your promise for
yet another wondrous encore

For now all the living abide and wait for you
to emerge from that wintery limbo
Life so eager, so ardent, so patient to convene
So I demand you, "Get on with the show!"

Your power so craftily wielded and practiced
for countless millennia gone by and by
Creatures of all sorts sing praise as you fill the
world with colors you timelessly apply

You've come and gone leaving nothing behind
but life where there was none before
Nothing asked in return for the greatest gifts our
world has ever known, "Oh.., how we adore!"

Species not a one hasn't been shaped by the
service you perform yet seem to never tire
Flora and fauna in all four corners absorb your gifts
for nothing else do they need or desire

The glory of God is nowhere more evident than
your works and the lifeblood you provide
Scientists, teachers and philosophers alike stand
in awe as your magic is annually applied

So "Hurry, Oh Spring," for your subjects await..
For nothing on Earth is so grand as the love and life you create..

I really enjoyed this ode to spring. You have a wonderful talent for language.

I might suggest a "Springier" title, however. I know you want to "spring" a surprise on the reader at the end, but I think that is not really needed. The poetry is good enough to stand on its own without any surprises.
