Fading Away (Triijan Refrain)

by Jenni Marie   May 1, 2011

Ironic how things change so fast
Seems our times at an end
Quarrels, our feelings can't outlast
Can no longer pretend
Can't keep trying any longer
No more feigning that I'm stronger
Can't keep trying
Can't keep trying
This can't go on any longer

Ironic how things change so fast
No more, a fairytale
This now leaving us both aghast
We're to weak to prevail
If we had tried, may have held fast
Such a shame we weren't meant to last
If we had tried
If we had tried
Maybe we wouldn't be the past

Ironic how things change so fast
Used to have hearts entwined
But now seeing clearly, at last
Finally, I'm resigned
Now moving on, away from you
For all this hurt, it was undue
Now moving on
Now moving on
What I'm feeling, you can't undo.

The Trijan Refrain, created by Jan Turner, consists of three 9-line stanzas, for a total of 27 lines.
Line 1 is the same in all three stanzas, although a variation of the form is not to repeat the same line
at the beginning of each stanza. In other words, the beginning line of each stanza can be different.
The first four syllables of line 5 in each stanza are repeated as the double-refrain for lines 7 and 8.
The Trijan Refrain is a rhyming poem with a set meter and rhyme scheme as follows:

Rhyme scheme: a/b/a/b/c/c/d,d refrain of first 4 words of line five /c

Meter: 8/6/8/6/8/8/4,4 refrain/8

Aaaah, this seems like a heck of diffucult form to pull out x_x omy...I'm even scared to try.... But this here was so lovely :') Maybe you can sell it? To get produced to a song...since it has such a melodic tone to it! Well done!;)

You did an awesome job with this form! I personally HATE writing this form because it's too dang hard to nail, but you did so with grace! :)

I love the repetition, the line you used. You can broaden it to fit anything or keep it all the same thought and tune, and thats important when doing a form like this :)

I love the rhymed resigned and entwined! Brilliant rhyme there :)
