Flightless

by Beautiful Chaos   May 10, 2011

I watched you, like a flightless bird,
Fall from the air, landing harshly on your dreams,
Your lips smiled to mask your dying eyes,
But my heart saw the truth you tried to hide.

Full of hope, but hopeless, a walking contradiction,
That was me once, caged in your insanity,
Wings clipped by self hatred and pity,
But evolution somehow found me.

My rebirth was unfathomable, just as your demise,
I thought such misery was written in my stars,
That love could never exist without pain,
Because of who I was and who I am.

Karma came to visit today, we sipped coffee and chatted,
Reminscing lightly about the decades,
Cautiously stroking raw nerves and memories,
Until truth was discovered.

We create our own pain, our own misery,
Like black holes, we devour our own universe,
We set our evils free and like all things created,
In the end, they search out their maker.

We allow people to determine our worth,
To measure and dissolve our strength,
Hoping that we'll be anything but lonely,
When really, lonely is exactly what we are.

So I'll watch you spiral, like an angel fallen,
And pray you find your truth in the wreckage,
I'll meet you in hell, we can warm our hearts by the fire,
We'll reminsce about our evils while we wait to meet the Devil.
