The Ultimate Sacrifice of Unconditional Love

by Captain Lonesome   May 16, 2011

I see them broken, filthy, com to rest in squalor
As I continue to struggle by they disrespect and condemn me
They insult, taunt, and mock as they holler
My heart filled with compassion, my eyes as cold as stone can be

My journey is marked with excruciating mutilation
I could with one word stop it all and the blood that flows
But I agreed to endure the pain, spit, and interrupted coagulation
For a purpose that at this point in time nobody yet knows

The sky darkens as my vision is now blurred
The fabric, dried into open wounds on my back, is ripped off
Throughout these final hours tongues of ridicule are heard
Dexterity slips, numbness sets, and the ability is to painful to cough

The color of flesh is now gone as Im drenched with my own blood shed
Though the pain I feel worst is that of my breaking heart
Theres a thorny crown they have mockingly forced upon my head
And my arms are pulled, stretched, and tied far apart

Cold metal spikes are now striking through my hands and feet
I think only, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do
Blood stained dirt and stone marking everywhere Ive been in the street
I willingly ensure all of the torturous betrayal simply because I love all of you

The burden of this splintering timber weighs heavily upon me
But hopefully the multitudes will understand in three days time
That as I raise up this temple they may choose where to spend eternity
Because the burden of all humanities sin is now mine

Today into paradise, with Me, my sincere neighbor will go
At the end of this, with my death, the bondage of sin is diminished
Not long before the spear pierces me to let blood and water flow
I now bow my head and say, it is finished.
