Unrequited Love

by QuietDreamer   May 18, 2011

My parents squeeze my hands
In the small, sterile room
As we wait for the doctor
to return with dismal news.

He says my heart is failing
he says there is no cure
no explanation was given,
Instead, an expiration date

They can't begin to fathom why
But you and i both know, my
heart cannot survive on
unrequited love.

Without your love I cannot function
This hole in my heart grows, with
every second we don't speak,
Until my heart can love no more

After I am gone
One day I hope you'll visit,
return my love, dry your eyes,
and blow a kiss up to the sky.
