A Knight's Hotel tale

by Larry Chamberlin   May 22, 2011

Sir Executive charges the counter,
standard-bearing power-card pinned between
index and middle finger, head slanted,
challenge glaring at clerk's eye sockets
who submissively smiles, tight-lipped surrenders
hospitality accorded to this business Knight.

Pacific traveler saunters up beside him
waits patiently for his turn, smiles
infectiously, spreading the clerk's face
in genuine gratitude for the humanity,
awarded suite originally slotted to the Knight
who was given room with leaky toilet.
