Unfaithful

by Andy Beck   May 25, 2011

NOTE: this poem is not necessarily inspired by any of the poet's personal experiences. It's more a reflection on the wrong decisions that certain people make, and how those decisions affect those around them.
---

You destroy all that you touch
Crave that spark you want too much
Spark of danger, speedball thrill
Heartless to the bond you killed
You're just frightened by a life of duty and of trust
You're too fickle to stay on the path that you discussed
Days and months of happiness, lost within one selfish day
I don't think you know, think you know what you've just thrown away

You think you're it, you make me sick
Degrade a decent life
You're acting cool, you want it all
Virtue speared with knife
You wonder why you're in this Hell
One day there'll be nothing else
You'll be left with none
I hope you're happy with yourself

Here with me you had a lot more than you ever knew
It wouldn't be like this if you'd just tried to see it through
You ventured down the easy road but now you're left with nought
Here with me you had a lot more than you ever thought

Well there's a wise man I know well
Who once sang of how cheats will fail
He had his share of broken hearts
but came out fighting to the last
You're just frightened to commit to those that hold you dear
You're too busy looking round to see what you've got here
Days and nights of happiness, lost within an afternoon
I don't think you see, think you see the evil that you do

You think you're it, I think you're thick
I think you're good as blind
Your cheating heart, right from the start
Will you make up your mind
You turned away from what is true
Well now I'll turn my back on you
When you feel the world has flown
I hope you like it on your own

Here with me you had a lot more than you ever knew
It wouldn't be like this if you'd just tried to see it through
You ventured down the easy road but now you're left with nought
Here with me you had a lot more than you ever thought
You ventured from the beaten track, now you're off will you go forth?
You're the unforgiven sinner, sings a voice from in the North
Your destiny's a blackened cacophony for the crows
Here with me
Here with me you had more than you know

And now what have you got?
Arguing your faces off
I think I'll sit back and watch
While you destroy each other
Soon the true will have their day
Will surmount your lack of faith
Sinking in a lusting bath
We're the ones who stand and laugh
And now what have you got?
Sit inside your corpse and rot
I think I'll just sit back and laugh
While you destroy yourself
Verbum sapienti:
There is time in life for what is fair
I did nothing wrong
All I ever did was care

So here with me you had a lot more than you ever knew
It wouldn't have been like this if you'd tried to see it through
You ventured down the easy road but now you're left with nought
Here with me you had a lot more than you ever thought
You ventured from the road of safety, and now can you feel the cold?
Staying loyal's not closed-minded, staying loyal isn't old
Your future's marked out in a red that I don't like to see
I swear to God
I swear I'll never do what you have done to me

One day I'll get back from this
