Will you Stand

by Thomas Pender   May 30, 2011

Will you stand here
Where the blood vows given
and fortune's tide turns
on a cold unforgiving beach
An echo of stars from creation
painting pictures in the sky
in the lingering glow
of twilight's crimson smear

Will you stand here
alone in the dream of home
where the sacrifice of loss
seems lessened
And a heart's cold fury
loosed on a sea of vengence
bleeds a storm's grey shroud
constricting the morning

Will you stand here
and watch the last moonrise
cast a hard and futile light
on our shadowed betrayals
While the women's prayers
clenched in hopeless words
spin to the darkness
and a long dead God

Or will you stand here
in a final savage battle
fought for the pain of nature
at the long road's end
Will you display red rage
against the spears of oblivion
Will you stand alone
if none should care to stand
for the World
