Spirit of Light

by Thomas Pender   May 30, 2011

I stoop my head in wonder
As your cool radiance lances my being
I kneel here in a columed arch
Feeling warm balms from the deep sea
Where glistening shells golden and red
Move in the soft caress of a gentle wave
You walk on soft and dappled sands
Leaving your footprints for the World
You raise my spirit up and away
From the endless rush of solitudes
To soar and dance on beams of light
Our bright clean souls exalted
In incandescent arcs of stardust
We Sear through the teeming darks
Four soaring notes in Creation's Scale
And the great Universal Symphony rings out
From the depths of time immortal
A whisper of bright winged Angels rising
Pulses a chorus for your soft words
A waving cadence on a forgotton breeze
And the light of day transforms
In a window's red stained glass
Streaming motes caught in a gleam
Of a great Creation's sweep of sky
A row of stones incised with history
Reflect the light and memories
There in that ancient Churchyard
beneath the shadow of a stately Yew
And will you sing those songs once more
A welcome for the bright shining light
And I will hold hard to my heart
A sheen of bright and wild beatitudes
There where your eyes spear the throng
And open a view on Eternity's shore
To watch the fingerprint of Creation
Riding on to oceans of radiant infinity
