Vigil for One

by QuietDreamer   Jun 4, 2011

The sun begins to bow
As the candlelight vigil begins,
A vigil for the death of a relationship,
one shared between two friends.

I stand where we first met
and embrace bittersweet memories.
Through teary eyes and with trembling hands
I light my candle's wick.

The dancing flame caresses
my tear-stained cheeks; quells
the sorrow that dwells within,
comforts me in its warmth

Your candle is unlit, cold,
But even if ignited,
No warmth would it produce
all because you have given up.

My candle, burning with passion
Will never reduce to ashes
so long as you resist an "us"
and I still cling to hope.

I really like the way you compare the poem to the symbolism of candles... very creative and deep. It hurts so much when you lose a friend or a lover...
Great expression! Really enjoyed reading it!
