Mocking Birds

by MidniteRain   Jun 13, 2011

Struggling against the raw cords that lash,
You thrash and scream, heart furiously beating fast.
All that venom and all that rage, ask yourself,
What good do they do in this dark, empty cage?

They crowd around you, mocking like birds,
You cry and spit madly, at the circling herd.
Feel your pulse throbbing in your neck,
Your chest heaves, face dripping with sweat.

You close your eyes, with a quick shake of head,
Smirk and laugh, no longer do you fight and writhe,
For they are not they, just your self in disguise.
Oh yes, now, now you're alive.

The title drew me like the book did "To kill a mocking bird"
As I read each of your poem it feels like I'm in the "now" like
you are talking to that person putting the reader into your world
and situation. Liked the imagery you have here...take care
