The Poetry of the Portfolio: Christmas

by Freeze Tyler   Jun 14, 2011

Winter's daylight and musky sky tricks sensors into keeping street lights on after night.
Those lights have no affect compared to the rising sun but make a good ambiance.
The sky, a neutral yet tantalizing grey spikes the curiosity in what lies ahead.
It makes a good backdrop on the frost covered rooftops and the miss-white smoke.
A sort of break across the world happening causes the printing press to pause reality
Stores being clustered with people carrying lists, a heart, and the best of intentions.
On and on people are hurrying just to end up waiting,
Parents doing selfless acts for selfish offspring,
Unaware that it all will soon show it's worth.
People galloping to get inside to the welcoming warmth.
Scents of timbers burning linger the Earth,
Happy folk are smiling at one and other while rejoicing in fairy tales,
People are donating; giving what they don't need; receiving what they do need.
Wars put on back burners, along with the fresh pies, and replaced instead with merry cheers.
Similar color schemes across the world being displayed over the same figures.
Honey hams being baked,
Casseroles being cooked.
Sweet nothings being wrapped up with the real sweets over looked.
Kids feeling the excitement from new property, while ecstatic by the mystery.
Too enticed in the gossip of the night to even think about sleeping.
Clutching to a parents leg begging; crying for what they don't know they already have.
Some kids rediscovering, while some are just finding out.
Some kids play in the snow, while others simply sip hot chocolate inside the house.
Grandparents making their way over, or sending their regards.
Old friends reconnecting to reminisce about times now lost.
Over indulging in despair, or not soaking up the cheer,
Until somebody invites them to share some rituals from over the years;
Some listen to the same ol' songs, some watch the same old movies,
Either way, to them it's part of their undying history.
The world seems to be at peace, the future doesn't matter,
The people seem to be at ease, their family and friends is what matters.
Every once in a while you will see people doing what is right.
Here and there you will hear a rumor of a jolly man in red tights,
Listen closely and you'll hear a bell, or a chime.
Because all across the world...
It is Christmas time.
