The wolf in the snow

by Thomas Key   Jun 21, 2004

(There wasn't really any other place to put this...so here it is)

The full moon is out,
its light glistening in the snow,
lighting up the woods.

The light falls upon tracks,
tracks of an animal,
one that moves quickly,
and stealthily.

A wolf is out on the prowl,
its hunting for food,
its stalking in the night.

It's eyes,
darting from tree to tree,
its breath,
making steam in the cold air.

Its paws buried in the snow,
the wolf standing perfectly still.
waiting for a noise,
waiting for food.

It remembers its past,
it remembers its mate,
lost in the river.

A stick cracks,
the wolf is on the hunt,
the prey begins to run
trying to evade.

The wolf is too fast,
too smart,
too strong.

The full moon is out,
its light glistening in the snow,
lighting up the woods.

A wolf stands on the top of a hill,
the snow around his paws white and reflective.
the wolf's eyes stare at the moon.....
and it thinks of her.....his lost mate.

And the howl of the lone wolf is echoed through the woods.
