Over & Over

by Chasing Butterflies   Jun 18, 2011

He grabbed her close
In a worrisome embrace,
But kept her far enough away
To see his troubled face.

He whispered to her softly
All the words he wanted her to hear,
Though every word or two,
His voice would crack with fear.

He knew they were coming
To take his love away;
So he paused in his rant
To see what she had to say.

Her face distorted in thought,
He panicked, more than before;
She wants to go with him,
Nothing else mattered to her anymore.

Little did she know,
The Shadows lurked above;
Grinning with their malevolence,
Impatiently waiting to steal his love.

Like many times before
He pulled her to him,
And crushed his lips to hers
On a very selfish whim.

Right on cue,
The Shadows descend;
How stupid could he be?
Of course it all would end.

She glanced at him,
And he glanced back at her
As she finally realized
Who they were.

Then the Shadows consumed her,
Mocking him for his lies.
He held the empty space where she used to be;
He never got to say goodbye.
