Bla bla bla

by Yakari Gabriel   Jul 2, 2011

Once upon time
a language,
grew within
the hallways of my brain..

And I couldn't quite figure out
If the shiny
ball in the sky..
was my son..
or perhaps the sun
within my son..

Never knew
Whether it was the weather
They spoke about,
or was it about
Something that wasn't true
when it was through?

Forced by a thought
That grew behind
What I had been taught

I finally understood
That I'd never become
The sea they wanted to see

Nor realize,
what it felt like
to have a soft heart turn hard.

    Yaki!

I adored the play on words within this poem sea/see, sun/son, whether/weather. They were all really clever and made the poem just that little more intriguing. I liked how you used such subtle comparisons to create the concept, it was deep and touched my heart many times, even though it was filled with sadness.

I agree with Britt, this is a poem you could read many times as it has the ability to evoke emotion within you and make you think. I found myself relating to this in many ways and you always manage to create poetry that is stunning and so very emotive.

    "I finally understood
    That I'd never become
The sea they wanted to see"

I adored the simplicity here, and even though the word choice was simple the thought behind it wasn't. Gorgeous lines.

Thank you for sharing, as always my pleasure to read.

I love this! I love the play on words, and yes it is directly related to what we were talking about! You did such a great job with changing up the wording for specifics.

I love the second stanza with sun/son... that was brilliant and so soft. The ending absolutely broke my heart, and I can't stop reading this. Yaki this is gorgeous!
