Coming Home

by Grunge Angel   Jul 8, 2011

Listen to your heart tonight.
If it is crying, tell it I will be home.
And when I am lying by your side,
promise me you won't let go.

Grab your gun, soldier!
Freedom is calling your name.
Stand beside your brothers.
Not for the glory or fame.
Fight through all the bullets,
push beyond the pain.
Do it for your family, son
you will not die in vain.

I read the letter that you sent me,
your picture is so beautiful.
Its enough to get me by,
but missing you is terrible.
I hope I get home in time
to see our pride and joy.
8 months passes by so fast;
I am hoping for a boy.

And in his hand a locket
clutched to his chest,
closest to his heart
when he was laid to rest.
A picture of his pregnant wife
coated in his blood.
Now a body lies
where a father once stood

I am coming home tonight
lying in this casket, dead and cold.
Dry your tears; I am by your side.
Promise me you won't let go.

Not for liberty or justice,
America, or God.
Not for the recognition,
the titles, or the job.
He did it for his family
his wife and unborn girl.
He might have lost his life,
but he did not lose his world.

This poem is very... emotional. and something that a ton of people can relate to in some way... I know you're talking about a man going off to war, but this poem can be used in so many situations.

About the only thing I could do is to make this poem more structured and with a rhyme scheme. okay?

    Fantastic Job! 5/5 <3
