Boulevard of Broken Dreams [song title contest entry]

by Larry Chamberlin   Jul 17, 2011

They say the road to hell is paved;
must be nice to walk on - smooth
and free of ruts. This hallowed broken
passage is rough, rips flesh just
struggling to plod on and stay erect.

Dreams die here between the holes,
kicked into submission by tears
dribbling from red eyes as you
drop to bleeding knees the hundredth
time, sight jerked from the goal.

Can't even remember anything but
this godforsaken boulevard slipping
forever from under foot; no diners
to quench thirst, no shadow to keep
company, just dead aspirations.

Actually, if I were applying for this contest, I would've chosen this title to write about.. and the way The GodFather interpreted the title of Green Day's awesome song was epic. This piece is close to perfection.. It flowed so well with these vivid images and very nice idea.

^ Definitely my favorite stanza. I can truly see this image right in front of me. It feels so alive and real! Very empowering stanza!
And of course, the end was great..
All in all, it was an awesome small piece, yet leaking with great thoughts..
