The Answer You Seek

by jen sheridan   Jul 28, 2011

If you seek the answer to the question,
Let me make a little suggestion,
I will tell you what to do,
But all the rest is up to you
So now I have your full attention,
Let us seek some intervention.

First of all you're required to trust
This requirement is a must.
Second of all you need to care
Patience now, we're almost there
Last of all you must listen to me
That takes care of number three.

If you leave your regrets behind,
I'm sure God won't really mind,
Now put your daily workload aside,
Swap it for a walk outside.
Find a spot that's nice and green
Choose somewhere that's very serene.

Take a moment to stretch your limbs
Here and now, it all begins.
Breathe in deep and close your eyes,
Turn your face to endless skies.
To find the answer you truly desire
Ask the question you most require.

Now wait a moment if that's what it takes,
He who receives more is he who waits.
When the breeze rises up from nowhere,
Caresses your cheek and brushes your hair,
Know that you truly have God's Grace,
He just knelt down and touched your face.

He will listen if you choose to confide
But the answer you seek is deep inside.
Now take the time to talk it through.
I swear this is best for you.
Speak out loud and use your voice,
Unless there is a better choice

I don't think God will get your letter
But if you truly feel it's better,
Best in life to give it a go,
This is how we all must grow.
We learn in life that we must try it,
Especially before we buy it.

But if you feel you cannot talk
Take God's hand and simply walk,
And you will feel more at ease.
Try it all again - there are no fees.
I leave you now to talk alone
But finally -----

I am not generally fond of rhyming poems as most seem too forced and constrained. This one, on the other hand, runs very well indeed, like a well-oiled train on seamless tracks. Not only does it read well but the words and thoughts are warm and wise too.
This is a mature poem and I like it (despite my agnosticism).
