Balloons

Balloons

I ordered balloons for your birthday
It was a childish idea, I know
But the point was a little bit of silliness
To take them to Raim Head and let go

I picked them up in the afternoon
Some were printed and some were plain
They were all filled up with helium
There was one for each person that came

I decided in my wisdom
To write you a final goodbye
And put it inside a blue balloon
To send it to you in the sky

But the letter was far too long to fit
As I had quite a lot to say
And when I tried to shove the bloody thing in
The gas released to my dismay

So I blew it up again myself
And tied it to another
I was determined to get my note to you
So you would know how I feel my brother

We released them together at the same time
And watched them all float away
Except mine of course, the droopy one
Which popped instead of floating away

I should have put it in a bottle
And thrown it out over the rocks
But in the meantime while I decide what to do
Its keeping safe in the drawer with my socks
