I never said goodbye

by Innocent Fairy   Aug 8, 2011

I miss the days I used to sit on your lap.
I would watch you smile from afar.
Grandma is now ninety,
And you've been gone too long.
I know you watch us,
You've always watched from a looking glass.
I was only six...
When I saw you on your death bed.
You died from smoking...
When you tried to quit it was too late.
We all had to let you go.
I remember the day,
And how painful it looked.
I watched you go down into the ground.
That day I cried, I couldn't stop.
For weeks it seemed.
I would cry myself to sleep.
I know you don't want me to cry,
But I can't help myself.
I have no control.
Great grandpa... I can see you in the stars.
I know your up above...
Waiting in heaven...
Waiting at the gates to welcome us once more.
I miss your smile.
I miss playing in the garden.
In your yard I made a tree house.
It wasn't mine, it wasn't yours.
But those were the days.
The days on the tree swing,
That you and grandma built.
In the house you guys created
And made your own.
I miss you.
I miss grandma.
I fear she'll go soon.
But I know that she'll be safe in your arms again.
I want to write her.
I just don't know where to begin.
Great grandpa... I see you in the stars.
I'm crying...
I miss you.
But your with god
And one day... I know,
I'll see you soon.

I really enjoyed reading this beautiful, sad heartfelt poem.

It is such a young age for a child to go through death like that. To know somenoe was there but now they're not.

    I miss grandma.
    I fear she'll go soon

When you say you miss your grandmother in these lines, Is she here with us physically but not so much mentally? When I read this I felt as though your grandmother is going through some kind of dementia?

I am only saying because you miss her but you think she's going away soon. If that's the case that is very, very sad. My grandmother is going through that right now and it is heartbreaking when they cannot recognise you.

I love this poem. I remember my grandfather but not completely. I know I was upset when he passed away too.

    Lovely poem
