Creation 101

by Allan Padgham   Aug 9, 2011

I have a box for unmatched sox ,
It sits upon my table
While sox go in, a few go out,
I count them when I'm able.

The pile just grows and heaven knows
that's cause for celebration.
Big bang is out, this demonstrates
There's Steady State creation.

------------------------------------------------------------------
On reflection I think I have been swayed by my personal views on the subject, I am much more comfortable imagining the occasional creation from nothing of a hydrogen atom [or a sock] on a vaguely regular basis than with the entire universe once. I think I am backed here by Occam's Razor. The difficulty in getting the final lines to rhyme while supporting the Big bang was also a factor. This may be expedience and the pressure to get published.

However some may see the unmatched sock as being analogous to entropy, a universe becoming disordered. Becoming eventually nothing but unmatched sox. This might mean some folks should get out more. Given there are a finite number of combinations and maybe loose criteria for matching, then sooner or later pair may form up. Becoming a more complete and presumably more complex as a pair. It is by this method the more complex molecules are assembled. I think this only backs up the Steady State case.

I have not considered each sock as having a divine origin, I am unaware of any mention of these in the theological area. However it seems odd to imagine sox doing their own matching and I an unaware of any observed cases of spontaneous matching. The question of who matches the sox does provide some hope for those with a creationist bent to build on.

The line I count them when I am able may be of more significance than first thought. It suggests at best an irregular activity. Ergo an experiment not well planned and the data not collected with the appropriate rigor. What about the time when one is not capable of counting? Look closely at the competency of the data collector. This may well be a cautionary tale for the young scientist.

Wow. It might just be me being stupid but I'm not sure I get it. Great writing though.
