As We Grow Old

by QuietDreamer   Aug 16, 2011

Each day the sun rises
and surely it falls.
Each night the moon rises
and each night it falls.

Each day we grow apart
not in miles or in meters,
but drift further apart
in terms of our friendship

Each day you forget a little more;
Forget about the moments we've shared,
the laughs we've had, the hurt we've felt,
and one day you'll forget entirely.

Each day until that day
I will fight to remember,
but I too will grow old
and inescapably forget

One day when I am reading this
wrinkled, aged, and tired,
I won't remember you or us,
and this poem I won't conceive.

This poem is really meaningful and quite deep. I like your choice of words and the feeling in this poem is very strong aswell. I think that it was a good idea to start each stanza with the same two words yet it changed when the content reached a significant change.
This piece reminds me of how valuable memories are and how important it is to never take anything in life for granted.
All in all I think this is a good poem.
