A Poem For The Rest of Us

by Aerie Gerard   Aug 28, 2011

There are teardrops leaving stains in your pillow.
As you fight to keep alive something you never could let go.
You set your world on fire, there's a friendship and its dead.
Like a war between your heart trying to control your head.
How can love be so painful when you're a teenage girl,
And one boy you hardly know can take over your whole world.
But you're so used to hearing "No, she's ugly." when you don't know why,
You're giving up on love because you know its hardly worth the try.
You're so tired of hearing it, you're just a stupid teen.
The whole world can be made or broken, shattering all your dreams.
You make a plan to pour your heart out, but you can't find the words.
And when you try to fix whats broken, you end up just making it worse.
You don't always love yourself, and thats enough to leave you dead,
But now you have to worry about whether others love you or if its in your head,
You're self destructive and you're so scared to act like YOU,
That the world can never see who you really are or what you will one day do,
You have hopes and dreams and you hope you'll find a boy who sees,
And if he doesn't maybe he's not worth it, or not what he seems.
So here you go, and its time to pick yourself up out of the dirt,
And just sing your silly heart out and don't be afraid of getting hurt.
