A Beautiful Ball

by Sigoney Holder   Sep 1, 2011

Twirling, swirling through the open air

Was there any other vision beyond compare

Eyes within eyes that sparkle and shine

Hand in hand, which moves with the feet in perfect time

Ball gowns and suits glide from person to person

All so entwined that they could all be one

Whispers of love escapes from mouth to mouth

Cultures, accents and colours mixed together nobody caring who's from the North to the South

Grand decorations lighting up a crystal chandelier

Expressions of admiration but no words to hear

Ancient portraits surround the halls

Watching from a distance whenever there are balls

Soft hypnotizing music begins to play

Sighs are noticed as each breath is taken away

The pale silver moonlight shines down on the garden green

Couples fall into it but are hardly seen

Gruesome gargoyles watch with evil eyes

As they are accustomed to secrets and lies

Tantalizing mazes lure them in by falsely showing the way

Then once they allow it to trick them they won't be found till the very next day

Pounding heartbeats that take life and prance

Giving more rhythm to this mysterious dance

Lips touch lips only in the dark

Beneath every declaration there lies a bitter remark

Curious couples disappear to explore

Then they find danger and aren't seen anymore

Thousands of years of Lords and Ladies

Left all their fortunes to their babies

And since they became Queens and Kings

They have left grand mansions drenched in years of sins

As the night draws to a close and the ball is no more

Nobody will be found leaving by the front door

And whenever asked did you go to the ball ?

You'll be shocked to find there wasn't a ball at all

And now you know why others have fears

Because apparently nobody has lived in that mansion for years.
