Bed sheet fortress,
Pillow case masks.
Fend away the monster
Will the comfort of the past.
With a flashlight on your belly,
Pointed to the heavens.
Life was so much easier
When you were only seven.
Now you worry about your debts,
Without the time to rest.
Your brain gets strained
As you begin to stress.
Jungle gym chasing,
Gumball cravings,
Beaten with the paddle,
If you're caught misbehaving.
And then it was no sweat,
To get out of a mess.
Fake a little tears,
Always fit the best.
Now you're stuck with the tests
Of life you can't pass.
Always hurry up,
Just to finish last.
Sometimes I grab my favorite teddy bear,
And curl up on the couch.
Stare into the TV,
Pushing cookies in my mouth.
Staring out the window,
But not wanting to leave the house.
