Hey Dad

Hey Dad
Even when i was a kid
you had a bottle in your hand
I wanted to be strong
to help you
when you literally couldn't stand

When i saw you hit mom
and push her head in the pool
It was like yesterday
When
You cried and cried
Then you asked me what to do...

You quit drinking
You quit fighting
but i still don't understand
how you died this morning....

My mind can't begin to register
yes you made mistakes
but you always said sorry
and that was good enough for me

Right now as I cry
I can't understand why
A realization coming from the deep
I'm thinking
What about those promises you promised to keep?
When I wake
Won't i see you?
When I get home from school
won't you be in the blue subaru?

A reality creeping to me slowly
its been couple hours since morning
And i'm still waiting for you to call me!

This poem is really heartbreaking, the emotions are so honest and this poem flows really well. I do not even know what to say to be honest. I read similar poems but none dealt with the topic as good as yours did. I'm sorry.
