Sonnet to Summer

by Michael D Nalley   Sep 15, 2011

Once you were young, now you are very old.,
Seasoned, yet closer to a chilling truth,
That pure passion often leave lovers cold
Longing for alchemy's fountains of youth.

Some seeds are sown, while others only fall
Like rain from heaven to soil, on this earth.
The sweetness of your fruit nourishes all
Though much of your spoils must await rebirth.

The reaper of harvests need not be grim,
With hope of what these constant seasons bring.
Our cups may be often filled to the brim
With nature's wine and water from the spring.

You will come again as in days gone by,
Like the tree of life you will never die.

Hmmm ... I found myself hiding amongst the words. Difficult to explain, but that's okay, for " (I) will come again as in days gone by,
Like the tree of life (I) will never die".
