Sandbox Years

by Owner of an Untamed Heart   Sep 16, 2011

When you're young,
the last thing on your mind
is something involving love.

playing hopscotch, jumping rope,
sliding slides, swinging on swings,
trading Pokemon cards, begging for racecars.

we were those kind of kids
who had fun in the sandbox
finding coins, making castles

it was all too perfect
until a little problem appeared
we grew up

now it's pimples because of stress
make up, high school drama
real plans on life, prom

responsibilty, your choices
and the definite heartbreaker
getting drastically dumped

suddenly, love is complicated
it takes a lot of energy
and heart-warming feelings

sadly, I've realized that
in my sandbox years
I just like you because...

you shared your animal crackers with me
