A country called 'India'

by Amreen   Sep 17, 2011

A country called India...
When I think of my country India,
the Indian flag goes through my mind...
Well, the Indian flag comprises of 3 colors:
the topmost color is saffron, which stands for sacrifice...
It depicts the sacrifice made by every common man of India who became freedom-fighters and strived hard to to free the country from the slavery imposed by the Britishers for a long period of 150 years..
The middle color is white which stands for peace..
It means the peace and unity within the people of the country, who though, belong to different castes and creeds, live happily together with brotherhood and peace.
It also emotes the calmness and serenity bestowed upon every Indian post freedom gifting us a right to live and smile in an ambiance of happiness and liberty..
the lowermost color is green which stands for prosperity..
It depicts the blessings of the Aged and the Eternal on the Indians. It also showcases the large spread of fields where the peasants work with all their might to feed the stomachs of every Indian..
Lastly but not least one,There is a blue wheel placed in the middle of the Indian flag which is also called as Ashoka Chakra.
It was the sewing machine used by the Father of our Nation,Mahatma Gandhi. He was the person who led the freedom fighters on the path of truth and non-violence,also called as the weapons which Gandhi used to overcome the slavery of the British Raj from India and getting back India its former glory...
What's more...??
The Indian flag itself gives a gist of the history and present of my country India...
Proud to be an Indian....:)

I loved the simplicity of the poem. This poem reveals how proud and thus faithful you are to your country. You know since my childhood until now I also loved India and this guided me to dig for the the indian history and culture either through reading or watching movies. i remember an old one having the name "Disco Dancer" and another new 'Bollywood vs hollywood' having the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwqVCJFBdBY
Untill now I feel enjoyed when somebody reminds me for any Indian topic and now you did that favor for me. Thank you for sharing this poem about the Indian glory.

This is certainly not a poem it is more like an advertisment for a holiday brouchure with a factual writing on a country called India. how anyone could consider this a winning poem is beyond my comprehension.

    Namaste!
App kaise hain? ( that's pretty much all I know, lol)

This piece is informative. It gives the reader a preview of what India is about by explaining the meaning of the colors and parts of Its flag.

I have to agree, It doesn't look like a poem but more like an article. In either case, Its good.

It isn't really a poem. Try changing the format. The wording was ok.
