Then there was you

Today, I thought I saw your face, or so it would seem
Mystified, was it real or just a dream
Though a bit unclear and hard to see
There you were, your face smiling back at me
Today, I thought I heard your voice speak to me and say
Hello, how are things with you these days
I turned, and there you were, you were gone
How dark are these days with the lights turned on
My heart, wrapped up in a memory, a memory of you
You took the best of me, and then you were through
Gone now from the horizon, gone from view
Lovers or friends, I wish I knew
Like riding a live wire, displaced without you
How I wish for a second chance, a chance to renew
A love once lost, when once there was you
Today, I thought I saw your face, or so it would seem
Hoping it was you, and not just a dream
Your beautiful face, your body, beside me once again
A feeling inside, I simply can’t explain
A darkening in the end, a light now begun
Inside me, I'll see you clearly, for many years to come
Containing you in memory, before it’s all gone
How dark are these days with the lights turned on
