Welcoming the Zombie

by Reed   Oct 9, 2011

The world I knew had succumb to infection,
And there I was trying to avoid detection.
Alone and within my mind a plan was staging,
For outside these walls an apocalypse was raging,

Denial sets in, for everyone I knew was dead,
I needed to escape, no time for tears to shed.
A window shattered, and the doors were being clawed,
They knew I was here, survival was flawed.

A door begins to budge, it was time for me to flee,
Walking towards death I asked myself "Why me?"
Angry, I grabbed my only weapon, a baseball bat,
Then suddenly the door fell in, our eyes met... splat.

Blood & gore spewed as I smashed the zombies' head in,
Sicken by scene I knew this was a battle I can't win.
With the smell of rotting flesh lingering in the air,
I wanted to sell my soul to escape, but only despair.

Walking, crawling, dead. Zombies littered the street,
I was going to die, clearly outnumbered, what a treat.
The pain of living had surpassed the pain of dying,
What's the point of going on, I was always alone, crying.

I had to accept death, for there was no other way,
Beginning my approach, I didn't even bother to pray.
With the bat by my side, dragging on the ground.
The zombies turned, and now I was found.

Entering the infested streets, I chose not to stop,
Now two feet away, my stomach begins to drop,
With open arms a zombie took hold, welcoming death,
She bites into my neck, blood gushed, one last breath...

I gave this one much thought. Instead of running away, I chose for my character to give in. Not sure if anyone noticed, but I tried to include the 5 stages of death. Dark indeed :3
