That Day

The Cops arrived and asked me what happened with a cold stare.
I stood staring into the crowd as if unaware.
Do you know what happened they repeated to me.
Yes I whispered and fell to my knees.
Then it all came back, every moment of that bad dream.
My friends and I were an unstoppable team.
But that day they wanted to take some gang's lives.
I didn't like the idea, my body felt as if it was covered in hives.
Then they cocked their guns and my best friend asked me one more time in his deep dark tone.
I begged them not to do it, but he just got mad, hit me and I let out a loud moan.
Then the car doors shut and the car roared away.
I ran after yelling, but ten seconds later I didn't know what to say.
My friends turned the corner, guns sticking out of the car.
They began to shoot, but didn't get far.
The next thing I saw was a giant ball of flames.
Tears started filling my eyes, was I to blame?
A bullet from the gang hit in the wrong place,
and the next thing I knew my friends are gone without a trace.
I could have stopped them, I could have been there too,
but now I'm standing here talking to you.
The tears filled my eyes and I watched the firefighters put out the flames to the only family I ever had.
