Why?

Laying beneath a blanket of stars,
Gazing curiously into the night,
The full moon, my only company,
As I am contemplating, why?

Why do I have such problems,
With the love I have to share?
Am I the one doing something wrong,
Or is this not my cross to bare?

I know I don't demand too much,
For I make it a simple request,
I have them promise to me this,
And come what may the rest,

"You are free to leave me,
Just don't deceive me,
Be whatever it may,
In each and every way,"

But every time I ask this,
They simply agree,
I guess I am a fool,
For trusting their words to me,

My broken heart is mending,
There is still much to do,
But these lonely nights are killing me,
Isn't there something you can do?

Laying there in the grass,
I waited for my reply,
You see it never came,
Because I still sit and wonder, why?
