With Closed Eyes I See

by QuietDreamer   Oct 14, 2011

In reality I am alone,
I eat alone in silence,
I sleep alone in bed,
isolated from the world.

I sit by myself on the love seat
drowning my sorrows with wine.
I close my eyes and think of you
So that I am not so lonesome.

With eyes closed I can feel you next to me,
your warm breath on the nape of my neck
sends shivers flooding down my spine.
You envelope me in your loving embrace
like a veteran returning home to his daughter.

But like the war hero's daughter,
I know when my eyes open once more
You will vanish from my world again,
leaving behind bittersweet memories.

I pray at night that I'll go blind
So I don't have to open my eyes.
Then we'll be together again
and I won't be so alone.

I love your poem. i may be 12 but seeing this instantly makes me more mature i wish i could gain knowledge from poems instead of school. the poem you created instantly touched me and made me emotional but since i always hide my emotions from the real world no one could consume my sorrow

First of all I really like the title because of it being so contrary and it's not the usual title one would read. I think that the sadness in this poem is outstanding and absolutely captivating, it is very relateable too because I'm sure everybody lost someone they would prefer to still be with. I definately enjoyed reading this poem, not only because of its emotions, but also because it flowed well and because of the message you convey.
