One-way road farewell

by Jenni   Oct 15, 2011

You lip the word "bye"
while trying to smile plucky,
your lips are dry because of
words left unsaid and you
hug him tightly, just like a breeze
at this dimly lit train station.

From frozen tails of the eye
you follow three steps and
a closing door-long the picture
of a back, that's moving away.
Perhaps even longer..

But you don't even know anymore
in what direction you should wave,
because panes are windows in only
one direction and you're on the side,
that just shows yourself.

One-way road farewell.
A glint in the mirror makes you
and the world behind you
blur and then slowly freeze.
Does your face sizzle?

The train starts moving and
the train station as well as you
flounce by, but wait..
Remember, you're the one left.

Guess that's how reflection works
when "you" turns into "I".

The ending definitely put the perfect topper on what was already a brilliantly written poem. I must admit that I also think I've fallen in love with this poem. So that means it will be going into my favorites as well. :D
