The Lake

by Lofallenve   Oct 18, 2011

Reflections of the lights; so mesmerizing.

The stars shine down, silent voices of judgment.

The moon overhead peers down in disappointment.

The waves lap at my feet, higher and higher each time.

Wanting to take the guilty to the grave.

I took the fated steps toward the outreaching liquid.

One more step and I would have been gone.

I was stopped by the strength of arms around me.

The truth just spilled from my lips:

"Just let me go!"

I struggled and I fought .

Refusal came from his lips.

And his arms tightened.

He whispered such sweet words in my ear.

Tears fell from my eyes to land in the water.

I could feel his tears on the back of my neck

"I never wanted to. Never. Never."

He nods his head and kisses my neck.

"I know you didn't."

His voice sends shivers down my spine.

I almost lose my resolve.

Slowly he takes a step back.

I take one with him.

"You don't have to go through with this."

I quiver and I shake.

I can't take my eyes off of those waves.

"But I should."

His hands go to my shoulders.

He turns me around to face him.

My eyes leave the water to face the sand.

Fingers touch my chin.

I'm faced with him.

His eyes stare into mine.

The moonlight making them shine.

Better than the sun could ever do.

"Don't do this."

The cold wind finds its way down to my bones.

His arms go around my waist.

He pulls me close.

His lips next to my ears:

"I forgive you."
