Chandeliers

by patrick ohslund   Oct 19, 2011

This is an unabridged introduction for:
A long term survival guide for relationships with multiple lovers.

Brake your hearts together
so many times like two chandeliers
swinging on a psychotic trapeze.
Kisses will leave echoes
of crystal shards crackling
on freshly polished wooden floorboards.
breath each other in,
overlap the last people we slept with.

Playing bumper boats with sexual partners
bouncing across six pairs of eyes,
orgies are fun house mirrors
doing mach 10 on a marry go round,
we sharpened ourselves
into jagged points of glass on the trapeze

Cradle hearts like hot stones,
toss them quickly
to the next pair of hands,
keep fingers unscalded.

Etiquette means twirling through a room
packed with flickering candles
without blowing any of them out.
Do not kiss in public.

Forge jealousy to barbells.
Bench press possessiveness.
It will bear down on you
trying to lay flat
across your windpipe.

When you see her
with someone else
try not to wonder
if that was his sperm
you smelled
at the back of her throat.

When your pulse
becomes a screaming
steam engine,
and your veins twist
like they were attached
to a drill gun
do not give in to the explosion
brewing inches beneath your surface.
Get used to walking away
from who you want to be with.

Get used to walking back,
As Hunter S. Thompson says,
'buy the ticket
take the ride',
this is your your mach ten merry go round,
your chandelier reflection of so many lovers
destined for impact.

When she says "Im really sorry this so hard for you"
The unabashed indifference
in the tone of her voice
will make you want to piss out
an icicle,
remember:
when you tear your self open
you can feel more of everything.

She is going through this too,
and all the he's she's with
are going through this too,
they
are connected to you,
no longer faceless pronouns.

Find the lover you are closest to,
Each of you
climb street lights
at opposite sides
of a busy intersection.
Bring a rope
and a piece of wood
approximately two feet wide.
Prepare your trapeze.

Do not look down.
Heat your hot stone heart
over as many candles
as you can hold.
Do not let them blow out.
Unwind your twisting veins
If you swing forward correctly,
you
will
not
swing
back.
Remember:
you are a jagged point of glass
amongst so many others
you are a chandelier
on a trapeze
You are swinging
towards each other
Wondering,
if there ever was a long term survival guide
for relationships with a waterfall
of lovers.

At this point
try not to breath each other in.
Glass dust
will hemorrhage lungs
needed to blow
you into a new form.

It was a success,
you have broken your hearts
together.
