What if I told you...

by Matthew Schut   Oct 20, 2011

Sitting alone in my room tonight
I begin thinking about myself
I'm always there to help others
And never ask anyone for help

There are a few things I need to say
I have been hiding behind a mask
Making people believe I'm okay
What am I hiding from, you ask

I've always been scared to admit
That I have some insecurities
And at times, I am not strong
What if I told you, I question my maturity?

I do look in the mirror and wonder
Why couldn't I have been born different
Sometimes I don't like the guy looking back
At times, I wish I was absent

There are times I tell others to smile
When deep down, I am hurting inside
Sometimes I feel like I am not good enough
I believe that I don't deserve a bride

I wonder if I am living the right life
Do I really help others like I think I do
Am I really that good of a guy
Sometimes I wish I was "new"

So what if I told you,
There are things I hide behind
Do you still think of me the same?
Or has this completely changed your mind?

All that I can say about this overall is that it is awesome. If i were to get technical, I would have to say the flow is amazing, the word choice is simple yet nice, the length feels perfect, and the emotions seem spot on. Also I would have to say the voice and tone you have put into it are terrific. This piece was penned very well and I must say it is almost perfection. 5/5
