The Gallows Pole

by Jeremy S Farley   Oct 23, 2011

The noose, it slowly swings
A harbinger of doom
"Oh God help me! Oh God save me!"
This madness can't be happening
I fear this gift the reaper brings
My end has come too soon

Must be a way
Must be some way
To cheat this fate and get away
I beg, I plead, I kneel to pray
Yet no one hears the words I say
"Have mercy please! Have mercy please!
Don't tie me to the hanging tree."
Still all ignore my frightened pleas
The judgement can't be swayed

My hands are tied
My legs are bound
Within my chest, my heart does pound
I try to scream yet there's no sound
None hear my whispered wail

"Oh God help me! Oh God save me!"
This madness can't be happening
I'm dragged upon my bleeding knees
Before the gallows pole
The headsman turns and says to me
"Have mercy on your soul."

I'm led up to awaiting death
Terrified, I gasp for breath
"Oh God please save me from this death!
God save me from this fall!"
I close my eyes in final prayer
God doesn't hear my call.....
