Dear Lover

by Lofallenve   Oct 28, 2011

Good morning,
My lonely, poignant lover.
How was waking up in the morn;
Without my delicate, slender body,
Lying next to yours;
Realizing you are always alone?
Has my scent yet left your pillow?
Do the memories of us haunt you so?
Or do you roll over to your side,
To pull her close to you,
Taking the feel of her body,
To erase mine?

Good afternoon,
My lonely, poignant lover.
Has she yet to leave for her work?
Do you grip your phone protectively,
Awaiting for the front door to shut,
So you can send me a hastened message of:
"She's gone, come to my bed."
Do your fingers freeze over the keys,
As the realization goes through your mind,
That you are no longer my,
Lonely, poignant lover?

Good evening,
My lonely, poignant lover,
How was your final meal?
Were you wishing as you were consuming,
That it was the taste of me on your tongue?
Does your mind hover over your phone,
Do you wait hours for a message to read:
"Good night my exquisite lover."
Do you watch the moon slip up over the horizon,
Do you count the stars that blink into view,
Do you stand out there with hope in your heart,
That I'd come up and slip my arms around you?

Goodbye,
My lonely, poignant lover,
This is the last you'll ever hear from me.
I know you'll go on for a few more days,
With the need to feel me once more.
I know you'll go on for a few more days,
With the hopes that I would be at your door.
But I also know,
That I will soon be replaced.
My scent will soon have faded into a distant memory,
The taste on your tongue replaced by so many others.
And as you fall asleep with her tonight,
I know that in the back of your mind,
You will be wishing it was me.
But as you awake in the morn,
You will always just be
A lonely, poignant lover.

    Wow!

What can I say? I am so captivated by this poem.

The whole poem was so strong but I found most of the strength in the first and last stanza. You opened the poem amazingly and closed the poem just the same!

This is one of my fav's!
