Neither a bouquet nor pralines

by Jenni   Nov 2, 2011

Others get a bouquet or pralines.
Flowers that wither, but that
couldn't bloom more beautiful
during their existence. Pralines,
that don't only look good, but
taste as much.

But no, you didn't give me a rose.
What I got is one of these round,
gilded mirrors, opened by pressing
a diamonds embellished nub;
revealing a mirror on one side and
a picture [of us] on the other.

Though that's not everything:
on the back you engraved
our names and a vow of love.
But why?

I don't accomplish to confess
to our love to such an extent,
to demonstrate it like that.
Just realized how much I mean
to you..

All I want is for you to know,
that nobody completes me,
moves me, like you do,
But a rose would have been enough.

A rose would have been enough for me too, Jenn. (: You're also on my favorites now.

I think you really captured how the little things mean the most to us; it doesn't have to be expensive or the world's biggest gift... It just has to be something small that is an expression of the love the other person feels for us.

This poem is proof at what the little things mean to some of us. (:

    Oh Jenni...

The last line just moved me, and it surprised me.

It was amazing starting with OTHERS .. It felt eerily perfect.

But, one note: there is an 'a' alone, shouldn't there be any noun modifying it? just my thought..

For the rest of the imagery, they penned awesomeness!

    A groovy write.

I think the gift was more unique than roses or pralines. A symbol of love to stay eternal. Flowers wilt and chocolates melt, but a gift such as an engraved mirror box, will stay for ever....or at least until one decides otherwise.

So the symbolism of this gift is much deeper. A wish for a love never to die.

    Very well penned Jenny.
