This Old Dirt Road

by Jess   Nov 4, 2011

Walking, leaves crunching under my feet.
This road has lead Me to hell and back.
Looking behind me, to my past.
Realizing, it's all a dark shade of black.

I see rainbows, tornado's, volcano's,
I see many, so many sleepless nights.
I watch as I hit rock bottom, at 17.
There is no excuse, for the things I have done.

My parents who tried to change me,
my grandmother who was ashamed.
My brothers who dis-owned me,
I see it all, as I walk down this old dirt road.

I don't know why I was the way I was,
so cruel to the world, to myself.
I always had an attitude, and a need for trouble.
Always had to have my own way.

I wish I could go back and change my past,
re-write the unwritten of "I love you's" that last.
Now my parents are gone and my brothers have left,
all that's left is this old house and to many regrets.

Wow, I felt every piece of that poem! that hit me straight in the heart! When i look back on my dirt road I see so many things i don't wanna ever see again. But, those old dirt roads are what built us, and are what made us! made us into the person we choose to be today! Amazing job! ^_^

I will have to agree with everyone. It is emotional. Most can relate to such circumstances.

I wish I could go back and change my past,
re-write the unwritten of "I love you's" that last.

The last stanza pretty much sums it up. The flow is appropriate. Simple yet makes one ponder upon.
