Hello Rainbows

by Jeremy S Farley   Nov 7, 2011

The battlefield is now silent.
Too cold for crow or raven.
Multicolored lights ripple the northern sky
And in the dead silence
A fallen warrior lies bleeding
Red into the trampled snow.
Awaiting his lives reward.

Seven foes he'd slain that day.
He chuckles with what strength is left.
More than fifty in his life.
Oh, how the All-Father must smile on him.
Oh, what tales would be told.
For he had lived well.

No oath broken,
Nor fear in battle.
The maiden descends.
Clothed in rainbow.
Comforting.
Every mans dream.

Adoringly she beckons.
Cloaked in color, swirling.
Come to claim her champion.
Her kiss only for the brave.
His sacrifice rewarded
As he dies in her caress.

She bears him cross the northern sky.
The valkery ascends ever higher
Across the rainbow yule hunt path
To the land of feast and glory.
Where only the brave may tread.
To the hall of golden Shields.

The long boats wait no more, for the dusk has settled like in days before to claim not one but two this day, Valhalla is awaiting I heard them say. Dragon under the hill hides asleep in december skies. My flight is swift.

This is impressive. The sombre tone is held strong throughout the piece and yet the reader doesn't lose sight of the gleam of pride and triumph in the warrior's eye. I enjoyed the use of mythology as well. How fantastic it would be to make it to Valhalla. 10 bucks says you do or would like the band Amon Amarth.
