Compromise A thing we toy with too much... Can you see her? A life of hardship and pain Her fire has been put out By heavy flooding rain. Can you see her? Helpless and crying A reputation of selling herself Inside her soul is dying. Can you see her? All happiness is drained She can't escape her owner She's a prostitute she's ashamed. The way people look at her When she's on the street Sneering, jeering Dropping dirty money at her feet. Can you see her? She's a prisoner of defeat She's crying to get out By the way she doesn't eat. Can you see her? She doesn't have the strength to win She'll never find a way out This is how her life will end. Make-up cannot cover Her hideous bruises and black eyes Her face now looks like death There's no fire, there's no life. Can you see her? She has nowhere else to run Can you blame her? She tries to find the gun. Can you see her? She holds the gun in her hands Holding it tight Like a key to the promised land. She puts the gun to her temple As she starts to sing Of repentance and she pulls the trigger Her suffering is at it's end. She is free. Can you see her?*written in 2003* (please vote)
