A night in winter

by amanda   Nov 9, 2011

A winter night is always quiet,
the people fear straying too far
from the warmth of their homes.

The moon high and bright,
the snow reflecting its light,
gives the dark a soft glow.

Despite the cold that tears through
the skin and enters the bones,
my peaceful soul warms my core.

The desolation breeds a sense
wisdom to the mind and
clarity to the eye.

The glow of the windows
remind me that I am not alone,
even out in the cold where
no living thing moves.

So even when I return to the
one home on the street with
no lights in the window,

Where I see the people with
no lights in their eyes and
no warmth in their souls,

I can still remember the
cold winter nights
where I am not alone.
