The space surrounding my heart

by Karla   Nov 15, 2011

He touched my hand, saying
the Sufis believed that the space
surrounding our hearts contained
connections to every part of
our mind and body.

I gazed at him, quietly, drinking
his words, trying to quench my thirst
of intensity, hiding this fragile version
of myself, always so afraid of the time.

His name still rolls around in my mouth,
his image still comes to me, to my body
and mind at the same time:
I see and feel him
in the Unity of my Being.

He might be drifting around in the clouds
where I will never be.
I know he went towards the Truth:
Tarigaat, he would say again.

It is all nothing in nothing.
It is all love in love.
From pre-eternity to post-eternity
this heart of mine will be in his hands
for everything shall pass but us.

Karla, this poem is beautiful. You have a way of creating vivid imagery, that makes the reader feel the passion from your words... I loved the stanzas where you said you were drinking his every word, and about his name rolling in your mouth... I loved your metaphors here! Amazing!

    Great job :)

It's the first time on PnQ I read a piece with amazing flow and musicality. I'm really attached to it, and the maturity in your voice grows so loud in the readers' ears. You definitely penned this piece.
I'm gonna' nominate it, the next week.

And.. oh, the Sufis usage, post/pre-eternity.. were so clever and gave your piece so much thick volume. I LOVE IT!

Beautiful poem Miss Karla. You have a way of writing that you alone possess.
