Awww... Matt this poem is soooo sad =( but I loved it.. you painted nice imagery, but in a sad situation... I liked that it was a bit unexpected, because usually when people write about the ocean of footsteps it's related to romance and love.. but this was different. I really liked your opening stanza, it was so powerful. Great job my friend!!

Ok, so its really rare that a poem would make me tear up, well guess what, yours just did :'(

The amount of sadness carried in this poem was so deep, I do t know, it gave me this deep feeling that I dont know to describe it as what, but it touched me so much.

As dust so easily can be wiped away,
a flower can be plucked from the ground,
a life can be taken in an instant,
a new hero to be found.
    ^^
This opening stanza just grabbed my attention and raised up some questions as to where this poem is heading.

I walk the beach with footprints left behind,
as I stare at the galaxies above,
    lost in tearful thoughts,
    no longer believing in love.
    ^^
yes I agree with Sara, foorprints and walking by the beach just sends romantic messages to the reader, until you read that last line.

The ocean washes away my footprints,
washing away any memory of me,
the stars begin to fade away,
leaving my life feel even more empty.
    ^^
as if the ocean has wiped away your existance, I loved the idea behind this stanza so much.

With a rope tied around my ankle,
I carry the anchor in my hand,
I start walking deep into the ocean,
no one will even miss this man.
    ^^
Here, you just said it all to me, you killed me with this stanza Matt. He just gave up, surrendered to the fact that he is nothing.

OMG !! This is one of my favorite poems indeed.

God bless you my friend, and I hope you live to never see a sad day in your life.

"With a rope tied around my ankle,
I carry the anchor in my hand,
I start walking deep into the ocean,
no one will even miss this man."

That is my favorite stanza of the whole poem, it just definitely puts the topper on the cake. The footprints in the sand makes it seem like it could take a romantic turn, but then at the end, it takes a dark turn and I just love how well it all fits together. The flow was flawless in my mind and I really just couldn't tear my eyes away from this poem until I read it all after the first line.

Definitely nominating this poem as well.
