Masquerade

by Lofallenve   Nov 20, 2011

I feel like the star of a beautiful
Masquerade made of feathers of swans,
Colours only rainbows could be proud of;
These masks hiding what emotions we feel--
I can feel the spotlight touching my face,
Lighting up the room,
Showing my way right to you.
You take me in your arms
And the take the first step of the
Masked masquerade dance--
The mask your wear is of a glorious hue,
It shines, it glows, and it shimmers.
The gold, frames those wondrous eyes--
I take the second step back,
Starting up the dance,
The melody floats in the air surrounding us,
Seeming to lift our feet up off the ground.
My hands are clasped around your neck,
I wear my smile with happiness and with pleasure,
I can see the same happiness mirrored back,
The smile you give me,
Causes me to stumble in the midst of our dance,
You catch me as I am about to fall--
You hold me in your arms,
Still the radiant smile holds true,
I reach a quivering hand up,
And do away with my gold mask,
Exposing every hidden emotion,
Revealing what lies beneath this,
Beautiful masquerade mask--
And as I bequeath this mask,
Letting it fall gently to the polished floor,
I'll hold out my hand,
Trying hard to not let you see it shake,
As I'll ask this one last time:
"Do you care to dance?"
